Long-serving Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) Secretary-General Wilson Sossion has stepped down.

The nominated MP on Friday announced that there was too much pressure from teachers for him to step down and he obliged.
He held the press conference at Windsor Golf Hotel, Nairobi. His family and friends were present at the event.

“I bow out of KNUT as the Secretary-General. I shall remain loyal to KNUT and will always be available to advise and support the leadership of the union,” he said in a press conference held at Windsor Golf Hotel.

He added that the government should allow union money to trickle down through the teachers.

“As I exit, I hope the government will support teachers. I am making this appeal. I trust that the government will find it necessary to allow the union money to flow to the teachers,” he added.

KNUT is holding its election on Saturday.

The rain started beating Sossion in 2017 after his nomination to parliament by the ODM party.

However, he countered efforts by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) to have him out of KNUT.

In May 2021, the High Court in Nairobi gave TSC a nod de-register the Kenya National Sossion as a teacher.

Sossion had first challenged TSC order to de-register him in 2019 saying that the teachers’ employer was acting in bad faith.

TSC CEO Nancy Macharia told the court in an affidavit that it sent Sossion a notice on the intended de-registration and he did not reply within the 90 days given according to the law.
