Opposition leader Raila Odinga’s wife Ida Odinga has addressed speculations as to why she did not attend the much-hyped ‘swearing-in’ ceremony at Uhuru Park on Tuesday.

Ida said she was ready to accompany her husband take oath as the ‘people’s president’ but she could not manage because of a family emergency that came up at the last minute.

The emergency, she shallowly revealed, involved her last born daughter, Rosemary Odinga who has been ill for a while.

“I was not physically present at Uhuru Park but I was with them in spirit,” Ida told the Standard.

She said she was dully behind her husband in the decision to take oath and become the people’s leader.

Ida said that her absence should not be perceived the wrong way because the spouses to the other co-principals also missed out on the event.

Ida noted that as a wife, she has a duty to ensure her family is alright at all times. “”I think the whole exercise was done in an expeditious manner, with tension here and there. They had my moral support.”

Besides, Musalia Mudavadi, Moses Wetangula and Kalonzo Musyoka did not also attend the fete citing various reasons.

However, she was quick to condemn the manner in which police treated NASA supporters ahead of the fete citing that she understands clearly the aim of her husband’s fight towards restoring justice in Kenya’s justice, electoral and governance systems.

On Wednesday, officers from the Flying Squad Unit arrested Ruaraka MP TJ Kajwang over his alleged role in administration of the oath that Raila took at Uhuru Park.

Kajwang was flanked by lawyer Miguna Miguna during the ceremony that has left praises across NASA strongholds in the country.

His supporters as well as opposition leaders have called for his release.

Sources within the police ranks have revealed that the MP will be charged with participating in illegal assembly.
