A Machakos court on Tuesday handed Stephen Ngila, the man who chopped off his wife’s hands, Jackline Mwende a 30-year jail term.

The 2016 incident left Kenyans in shock over the act which left Mwende maimed and bearing permanent scars.

Machakos Law Courts Senior Resident Magistrate Brenda Bartoo said that the court found Ngila guilty of attempted murder.

He attacked his wife at their Machakos home.

Mwende told the press that Ngila was resentful of her for not bearing him more children. However, she said, the problem was with her husband’s fertility.

She made reference to medical tests which showed that Ngila had reproductive issues.

Mwende said that Ngila, a 38-year-old tailor was adamant to seek treatment as had been advised by the doctor. Mwende has a son named Zawadi but rumor has it that she sired the boy with another man

LG Electronics flew her to Seoul in South Korea where she was fitted with prosthetic arms.

Merc Foundation built her a four-roomed house with a solar power system and a water tank to make her life easier.

The court had earlier released Ngila on Ksh200,000 cash bail, a move that drew protests from women activists in the country.
