12 big names in governorship felled by new entrants

Twelve political heavyweights who have been serving as Governors in the last four years have been felled in Tuesday’s polls.

Both Jubilee and NASA affiliated governors suffered a similar fate as voters headed to the ballot top elect a new crop of leaders.

To start with is Kiambu Governor William Kabogo who was trounced by Ferdinand Waititu.

Waititu garnered 729, 458 votes against Kabogo’s 195, 592 votes. Waititu was running on a Jubilee Party ticket while the latter ran as an Independent Candidate.

Marsabit Governor Ukuru Yattani vying on FAP ticket lost to former NHIF Chairman Mohamud Mohamed of the Jubilee Party.

Mohamed garnered 52, 655 votes while Yattani managed to get 41, 832 votes.

ODM’s Governor Ahmed Abdullahi for Wajir lost to Mohamed Mohamud who garnered 38, 988 votes against his 28, 428 votes.

In Nairobi, Governor Evans Kidero was felled by Senator Mike Sonko. Sonko garnered 818,777 votes while Kidero garnered 657, 450 votes.

But Kidero has dismissed these results.

In Bomet, Governor Isaac Ruto vying on Chama Cha Mashinani ticket garnered 85, 695 votes while Jubilee Joyce Laboso garnered 175, 471 votes.

Pundits say his personal war against Deputy President William Ruto, besides joining the opposition, cost him the seat.

Bungoma’s Kenneth Lusaka (Jubilee) narrowly lost to Ford Kenya’s Wycliffe Wangamati after garnering 173, 276 cotes against 194, 665 votes.

However, President Uhuru Kenyatta in general carried the day in Bungoma with 123,804 votes against Raila Odinga’s 42, 988 votes.

Taita Taveta Governor John Mruttu lost to Journalist turned politician Granton Samboja.

In Meru, former Council of Governors Chairman Peter Munya of PNU lost to Jubilee’s Kiraitu Murungi.

He garnered 266, 219 votes against Munya’s 216, 897 votes. Munya has on several occasions ruffled feather with Jubilee regime.

Kisumu Senator Prof Anyang Nyong’o (ODM) beat incumbent Jack Ranguma (Independent) by 259, 756 against 146, 131 votes.

Jubilee’s Laikipia Governor Joshua Irungu lost to Independent candidate Nderitu Muriithi by 96, 828 against 98, 843.

Nyeri Governor Samuel Wamaathai lost to Jubilee’s Dr Wahome Gakuru by 84, 804 votes against 274, 186 votes.

Jubilee’s Francis Kimemia beat incumbent Daniel Waithaka by 218, 690 votes against a paltry 12, 692 votes.

Kitui Governor Dr Julius Malombe also suffered a humiliating defeat after Narc’s Charity Ngilu beat him by 106, 964 against Malombe’s 70, 837 votes.
