Two people lost their lives tragically few hours to the closure of campaigns in Karatina after an accident in Mathira constituency, Nyeri County.
Eye witnesses say a four-ton campaign truck ferrying the Jubilee campaigners had a tire burst before rolling at Ngandu shopping center.
It had about 60 people hanging onto its sides which are open.
Besides the two who lost their lives, scores of others were left with injuries from the accident.
“I saw the lorry swerving dangerously as it negotiated a corner, then there was a loud burst, followed by a bang, then wild screams as it turned on its side. Some people were tossed far from the vehicle,” an eye witness Francis Maina told Daily Nation.
Most of those who were tossed and hit rocks during the incident suffered broken legs and limbs. They were referred to Mathira and Outspan hospitals in Nyeri for specialized treatment.
Mathira Police boss Mathew Guiyo said they do not have enough information from their side as to what caused the accident.
