23 people die from coronavirus in 24 hours, cases hit 21,363

A total of 23 Covid-19 patients have lost their lives in the last 24 hours bringing the total Covid-19 deaths to 364.

Health CS Mutahi Kagwe announced on Saturday during his daily briefs. He spoke at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.

A further 727 people tested positive for coronavirus within the same period bringing total number of Covid-19 cases to 21,363.

The new cases were from 6,371 samples tested.

The youngest is a one-year-old while the eldest is 92. 465 of the new cases are male and 262 are female.

On a good note, 254 people were discharged bringing the total discharges to 8,419. Of these, 88 are from home-based care while 166 are from hospital.

Kagwe maintained that the number of young people passing away is increasing at an alarming rate.

“We are increasingly seeing younger people passing away. People should stop socializing and gathering,” he warned.

Nairobi led in the cases; 470 while Kiambu came in second with 64.

Other counties with new cases as recorded on Saturday include Kajiado (25), Kirinyaga (20), Mombasa (16), Migori (15), Busia (13), Machakos (12), Laikipia (11) and others.

In other news, a renowned sociologist lecturer at the University of Nairobi (UoN) Ken Ouko died on Saturday from coronavirus.

Ouko, 56, died in hospital.
