The Ministry of Defence has rolled out a raft of measures after 80 KDF officers from Embakasi Military Barracks tested positive for COVID-19.

A KDF soldier reportedly died from coronavirus last week. He was buried at his Olenguruone home in Nakuru.

An isolation centre was opened at the Embakasi Barracks and Kabete Barracks opened a treatment centre which will treat all COVID 19 cases reported from the barracks within Nairobi.

According to Citizen TV, restriction of movement in and out of the barracks was also restricted as a measure to contain the virus from spreading.

Officers on leave were asked to stay at home while those who live outside the barrack were recalled.

Going forward, sanitization booths will be set up across all barracks while mass testing begins to tame the further spread of the virus.

On Monday, Health CAS Dr Mercy Mwangangi announced that Kenya recorded 59 new cases raising the total to 4,797.

She said that a total of 2,354 samples were tested in the last 24 hours. The total number of samples tested so far is 142,366.

The youngest patient is seven years old while the oldest is 67 years old. 47 of the new cases are male and 12 female.

Another 73 people recovered raising the number of recovered patients to 1,680. Sadly, two more people lost their lives. Total deaths are now 125.
