Kenya recorded 80 new coronavirus cases on Thursday, Health CS Mutahi Kagwe has said.
The total confirmed cases are now 1,109. Kagwe said that 3,102 samples were tested in the last 24 hours making it the largest sample size to be tested since the outbreak was first reported in Kenya.
Forty-one of the cases are from Nairobi County while 20 are from Mombasa.
Kibra in Nairobi had 13 cases while Westlands had 9 cases. For Kibra, CS Kagwe said the victims attended a funeral in Siaya which exposed them to the virus.
Seven more are from Siaya County who also attended a burial. Among the 80 who have tested positive is an eight-month-old baby.
In the same vein, the CS said that 13 children have lost their lives following a Cholera outbreak.
Marsabit accounted for the highest deaths at 12 and Turkana one. Those affected are aged below 10 years.
The CS said that the disease started in Garissa before moving to Wajir, Turkana and later Murang’a where cases of floods have been reported.
In all these areas, over 550 people – 268 from Marsabit, 222 from Turkana, 48 from Garissa, Wajir (4) and Murang’a (8) – have been treated.
