945 healthcare workers have contracted COVID-19 since March, government says

Kenya on Thursday recorded 183 coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours.

The total number of COVID-19 cases in the country is now 36,576.

Dr Mercy Mwangangi, the Health CAS during the daily brief at Afya House said that the ministry tested 4,188 samples in the last 24 hours.

Out of the 183 cases confirmed, 14 were foreigners. Thirty-one of the new cases were male and 52 were female.

The youngest case is was a seventh-month-old infant and the oldest was 80 years.

On a bright note, 82 patients recovered and were discharged. Thirty-three of the new recoveries were from home-based programme while 49 were from various hospitals across the country.

This brings the total recoveries to 23,611.

Sadly, five patients died bringing the total number of deaths to 642.

It also emerged that since March when the first COVID-19 case was reported in March, 945 healthcare workers have tested positive for the disease with 16 succumbing.
