Are you a business person or just a luminary?- Bonnie Kim points out the difference

By Bonnie Kim

An Artist Focuses on being known, enjoying the celebrity status, a far as they are famous, they compose the music their fans love, they have successful launch where they see the hall full of people who can chant their music, see their fellow artist supporting them and they get more shows to perform and travel it is OK with them

A Businessman focuses beyond music. They know they are in the music industry and it must pay their bills. They look for ways their talent or music is going to pay their bills. How much are they going to charge? How much per performance? Are they going to be given a platform to sell their music? Who is going to be their sponsor during music launch & how much are they contributing? They make money around their brand and they become rich, they manage others, distribute their music and others, find items they can sell with their brand names & focus on opportunities that give them an edge because of their fame like Jaguar, 50 Cent, Michael Jackson.

Artists have fame but die broke because their fame becomes liability while businessman gets rich & famous. They are honored because they can pay the bills. Their producers, distributors, managers steal from them, squeeze them but give them little or nothing & because they are ashamed of asking how much or talking about money even to the people they go to perform takes advantage of them. They are shy to charge & worse when they don’t have managers because they never mention about money.

Businessman if they don’t have confidence in closing deals on their behalf they look for someone professional to manage them who is also the best salesman and they discuss their money margins. Because they know they can’t charge they get someone to be in charge of CHARGING MONEY & their Diary. When you call them regarding performance they take you back to their manager so you discuss on their availability as per the diary and your price or budget. The manager asks the details which you ignore as an artist and their salary is based on how much money they bring to the table. They know they have to keep you busy & profitable for them to make money.

In summary, Artists are Famous & Broke living a life beyond their means because of their celebrity status. Their Talent becomes a CURSE because they can’t pay their bills or be free in spending as they want. They develop poor self-image and low self-esteem, get lonely when their Star fades and their past becomes the beginning point in their conversation. While Businessmen are Rich & Famous, their talent becomes their greatest blessing. Their lives change and everyone in their family, their self-image transforms because they can pay the Bills. They are able to associate with rich people not hanging out but closing better deals. Their Star shines once and their life will never be the same again. Their conversation begins with WHAT’S NEXT, WHAT’S IN THE PIPELINE & THEIR FUTURE IN THE MUSIC INDUSTRY.

Don’t be fooled by your talent, at the end you have the Bills to Pay. Economic independence is key to success, turn your talent into income generating not fame generating only. Don’t be shy when talking about money. God gave you the talent, so find ways to liberate yourself economically from poverty, poor self-image through your talent.
