The U.S Embassy in Nairobi Kenya cancelled all appointments following the pronouncement of the first coronavirus case in the country on Friday.
Health CS Mutahi Kagwe broke the news to Kenyans stating that a female patient who had travelled to the US and returned via London on March 5 tested positive for coronavirus.
Following the news, those seeking consular services scheduled between March 16 to March 27 will have to wait longer.
“The @MOH_Kenya has suspended all public gatherings, meetings and events. All routine consular appointments from March 16-27 are canceled. In the case of a U.S. citizen in need of emergency assistance, please use the details provided here: http://ow.ly/LDTQ30qpyr4 |@CDCKenya,” the embassy tweeted.
The U.S government personnel will now limit non-essential travel as a precaution towards keeping coronavirus at bay.
Kenya has since banned all public gatherings – in schools, churches, social halls – and has also banned state officers from travelling abroad.
Following the news, major supermarkets across the city reportedly sold most of their sanitizer and cleaning ware stock in a panic-driven craze.
The panic-shopping caught Tuskys off guard forcing the firm to issue a statement to its customers assuring them that the level of stock would not decrease.
“We have engaged with our suppliers and received firm commitments that we shall continue receiving the necessary supplies at the standard prices,” read part of the statement posted on the firms Twitter handle.
