COVID-19 cases reduce with start of Christmas break as 114 test positive in single day

The number of COVID-19 cases in the country now stands at 94,614 as 114 more people tested positive on Monday.

A total of 2,507 samples were tested bringing the total samples tested so far to 1,011,025.

Out of the new cases, 100 are Kenyans while 14 are foreigners.

A total of 325 people recovered from the virus bringing the total recoveries to 76,060.

Some 256 patients were from the Home-Based Care Programme, while 69 were discharged from various health facilities from across the country.

Sadly, five patients succumbed to the virus bringing the death toll to 1,644.

Currently there are 850 patients admitted in various health facilities countrywide and 5,873 on Home Based Isolation and Care.  

Another 46 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 24 of whom are on ventilatory support, and 19 on supplemental oxygen. Three are on observation.

The cases have since slowed down as the government promises the availability of a vaccine towards the first quarter of 2021.

The Health Ministry Mutahi Kagwe has settled for the OxFord/Astra Zeneca vaccine which fits within the Ministry’s parameters among them, cooling of between 2 t0 8 degrees Celsius, WHO pre-qualified and is affordable.

Kenyans has ordered 24 million doses to serve about 20% of the population.
