Former Budalangi MP Ababu Namwamba has resigned as Labour Party of Kenya (LPK) leader following his appointment as the Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) in the Foreign Affairs ministry.

“My appointment puts me in the position that I have to serve the nation. As a government appointment, I cannot continue to hold the party position,” he told the party’s top officials during a retreat in Eldoret on Saturday according to the Star.

Ababu was named alongside several other politicians who lost in the August 8 polls but they supported Jubilee as CAS by President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Former Nairobi County Women Representative Rachel Shebesh was appointed CAS in the Ministry of Public Service, Youth and Gender.

Wading into politics, the CAS said that a call made by envoys a week ago for opposition to recognize Uhuru as the legitimate President was right.

“We fully associate ourselves with sentiments made by the envoys on the political situation in the country.”
