Radio presenter-cum-comedian Felix Odiwor alias Jalango has given a piece of advice to artists and other creatives whose loves have become harder due to the cessation of movement imposed in March.

Jalango in a passionate post on Saturday urged creatives in the Covid-19 hotspot counties of Nairobi, Nakuru, Kajiado, Kiambu and Machakos to consider relocating to other counties temporarily to perform shows.

He said they have an opportunity to apply for a pass to be allowed to leave their counties of residence and move to other counties where they can still hold their performances.

“Dear art industry if you fully depend on art or performance to eat please plan and leave Nairobi now! Go get the jab, apply for the pass and just go! 29th May is far and we are not sure if they will open…just go utakufa hapa Nairobi!! We have places opened and operating in Mombasa, Kisumu, Kisii, Kericho, Malindi, wherever…Just plan and go! They need your talent! Book your events out of Nairobi!! Go!!

Jalango’s advise comes days after Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang’i gazetted an extension of the 8 pm – 4 am curfew, and cessation of movement in the five Covid-19 hotspot counties.

The gazette notice indicated that this will run up to May 29.

Jalango advised them to take the little pay they get in these other towns saying it helps in sustaining them.

He said well-established people in the Kenyan art industry are suffering too.

“Watu nyumba zinafungwa, artists are hungry! Depression is checking in!! Go! Team up go get a one bedroom somewhere in Kisumu, book events in Homabay, kisii, migori, siaya..go create a new audience!! Go to Nyeri..book gigs in Karatina, Nanyuki, Meru…Go to Mombasa, mtwapa, malindi, Kilifi…just go!! Njaa itauwaa wasanii kabla Corona!!

“Go accept the small pay, small gigs and build a new audience!! Eldoret, Kitale, Kakamega, Busia are all opened!! Just go!! When you get there adhere to covid protocols..wapelekee talent sio ugonjwa!!” he pleaded.
