American cybersecurity corporation Fortinet has recognized Kenya’s telecom giant Safaricom as the “Best-Managed Security Services Provider” not just in Kenya but entire East Africa.

Fortinet ranked Safaricom so high in terms of efficient in evaluation, technology operations and its deployment in the East African country.

This has seen the growth of business in the small media and large enterprises category.

Safaricom CEO Peter Ndegwa while acknowledging this recognition stated that security for the telco is paramount especially now that most operations by different firms have gone digital.

“We are very honoured to win this award as it is a true reflection of our comprehensive understanding of the unique security needs that businesses of different sizes have especially with the recent push to digitize operations,” he said.

Noting the importance of having cybercrime proof system, Mr Ndegwa said that: “This accolade acknowledges that we have made significant investments into reducing the complexity of safeguarding enterprises against cybersecurity attacks. We have done this in order to empower businesses and allow them to leverage the power of technology to take their businesses forward.”

Unlike in the past, millions of Kenyans are now more prone to cyberattacks since the shift to online technologies occasioned by COVID-19 pandemic that pushed workers away from their offices.

There has been an increase in attempted crybercrime attack over the past few but Safaricom among other service providers tirelessly worked into ensuring that such attacks are detected early.

The Safaricom CEO pointed out that with the recognition by Fortinet, the firm is indebted to ensuring that its security systems remain full proof to cybercriminals which will cushion hundreds of businesses from cyberattacks.

Last week, Safaricom Chairman Michael Joseph said that the firm has evolved from a telco to a technology company.

This explains why Safaricom’s cybersecurity systems remain top-notch in East Africa.

Headquartered in California, Fortinet which was founded by two brothers, Ken Xie and Michael Xie is now a multinational corporation which develops and markets cybersecurity products and services such as firewalls, anti-viruses, intrusion prevention among others.
