Anne Waiguru trounces incumbent Ndathi to clinch Jubilee ticket for Kirinyaga governorship

By Pharis Kinyua: Jamhuri News

Former Devolution Cabinet Secretary Ann Mumbi Waiguru has successfully clinched Jubilee’s ticket for Kirinyaga governorship.

She has elbowed out incumbent Kirinyaga Governor Joseph Ndathi from office.

Waiguru, going by provisional results votes tallied as at 12 noon; she had garnered 102,927 votes out of the 173,014 votes cast in the Monday polls.

She has been followed by Kirinyaga Central MP Joseph Gitari who had 44,745 while incumbent Ndathi managed a paltry 19,078.

By the time of going to press, only two tallying centres had not submitted their results. But either way, she still takes the lead.

But Ndathi has come out strongly to castigate the primaries in the county saying “they were mock nominations.”

He said she does not agree with the results at all.

He said there was intense rigging in the county while in some other areas, the polling stations were starved of enough ballot materials.

“Kirinyaga central had excess ballot papers while other places suffered shortages. Why was voting allowed to happen at night”? asked the governor.

He added that in some areas, people were allowed to vote up to midnight while others voted like 10 times.

“There are people who voted more than 10 times. I have evidence. Those voters even confessed to me,” quipped the governor.

He said that he will go back to his supporters and seek for advice on whether to run for the seat as an independent candidate.

“Don’t ask me if I will run as an independent; I will consult my supporters on what do next.”

Waiguru will battle it out with Narc Kenya’s Martha Karua who is eyeing the seat as well.
