Thirdway Alliance Presidential Candidate Dr. Ekuru Aukot has protested IEBC’s move allowing repeat polls to be between Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga.

He said the poll agency’s Chair Wafukla Chebukati is proving to be “ignorant of the law”.

The IEBC Chair on Monday declared that repeat polls will be between Uhuru and Raila only.

But Aukot stated that repeat polls should encompass every Presidential candidate who was in the August 8 bungled elections.

Aukot argued that it is only in a run-off that two leading candidates are allowed to re-contest.

But in this case, it is fresh polls which should allow other candidates to contest as the Supreme Court ruled the elections were flawed.

He added that it should have been upto the candidates to decide if or not they want to participate in the fresh polls.

“It is upto the candidates to elect whether they want to participate in these election or not,” he said at Citizen TV Monday.

He also said that he supports the exit of several IEBC staff who should not be allowed to participate in the repeat polls.

This, he said, is because they were part of the bungled polls on August 8.

“The orders of the court were very clear that they found certain elements within IEBC committed illegalities and irregularities. The first one is Chebukati himself who was the 1st respondent and the 2nd one is IEBC in its entirety.”

He said Chebukati should not oversee repeat polls and must resign.

Others are IEBC CEO Ezra Chiloba, the commission’s head of election affairs Immaculate Kassait and Legal advisor Praxedes Tororey.
