Babu Owino: No more drama, I’m considering being a “motivational speaker”

Embakasi East MP Paul Ongili popularly known as Babu Owino has vowed to turn a new leaf this year.

The MP who since coming into office has been shrouded in never-ending drama within the political scene says this year he will work for the people who voted him to Parliament.

“It is a new year and I have decided to make some changes in my life. To some people I have always been the leader who reacts the most in different situations, some might even call me a drama queen,” he told Nairobi News.

In 2017, a few weeks after he was elected Embakasi East MP, Babu allegedly issued derogatory statements targeting President Uhuru Kenyatta and his mother, Mama Ngina Kenyatta.

He purportedly referred to the President as “mtoto wa mbwa” (a puppy).

This earned him two nights in police cells before he was arraigned at Kibera Law Courts.

However, upon his release by the court on bond, he was whisked away by police officers and locked up once again

This time round, he was in for allegations of causing grievous and bodily harm when he assaulted one of his constituents.

After his release, he was involved in a fist fight with Starehe MP Charles Kanyi Njagua alias Jaguar (musician) at Parliament buildings.

Jaguar is reportedly said to have been irked by the MP’s tendencies to disrespect President Uhuru Kenyatta.

He also faces similar charges of assaulting one of his colleagues when he served as the Student Union Leader at University of Nairobi.

In short, Babu is not new to controversy.

But, in embodying the biblical Saul to Paul, he is ready to put on a new leadership face.

“But I have decided that I have to now become the leader that the people of Embakasi East want me to be. To champion on matters affecting the youth of our country,” he said adding he is flirting with the thought of becoming a motivational speaker.
