Tourism and Wildlife Cabinet Secretary Najib Balala has appointed British model Naomi Campbell as Magical Kenya International Ambassador.

Balala in a statement on Tuesday said that Campbell will play an important role in marketing as a top tourism and travel destination.

Campbell and Balala had a private meeting where the agreement was sealed before the public was made aware.

 “We welcome the exciting news that Naomi Campbell will advocate for tourism and travel internationally for the magical Kenya brand,” Balala said in the statement.

Balala said that Campbell’s appointment “doesn’t take away from our domestic market, it only strengthens it.”

Campbell on her part welcome her new appointment.

The 50-year-old English supermodel lauded the Kenyan government for improving infrastructure at the Coast to meet international standards.

 “I am also impressed with the world-class standard facilities at the Professional Golf Association (PGA) Baobab course located in Vipingo Ridge, the only golf course credited by the PGA in the whole of Africa. I invite gold professionals globally to visit the course to enjoy the experience,” she said.

Campbell has been in the country since mid-December. She flew in to the Moi International Airport which then headed to Malindi.

She has been staying at the exclusive Lion in the Sun Resort owned by Italian billionaire Flavio Briatore, a former Formula One boss.

Campbell who was at one point rumoured to be in a relationship with the Italian billionaire, also visited his other establishment, Billionaire Resort Village.
