Blow to Uhuru as 22 tablets are stolen in Cheragany school

Police in Cherangany are on high alert following theft of 22 digital literacy tablets given to the Bokoli Primary school by Jubilee government.

The school was given 59 tablets according to the head master Joash Barasa.

Barasa said that the theft of the tablets came when he was readying his team to start using them. Teachers had been trained on how to use them and it was just a matter of weeks before they started giving lessons to the pupils.

“We had scheduled to start the programme soon and all training for teachers had been completed. Pupils had been informed that they would start using the devices this week, he said.

However, Cheragany police boss Abel Ogulu noted that his team is following crucial leads they have come along in their investigation.

Boxes where the tablets were allegedly stashed for ease of carrying were found dumped at a nearby forest.

Ogulu has said that they will beef up security in learning institutions in light of the incident.

Residents too, have been called upon to share information with police in regard to the theft.

The tablets are a big indicator of Jubilee’s commitment to championing for digital literacy in the grassroots.

In its manifesto, the ruling coalition had promised to give every standard one pupil a laptop but it never happened. Instead, they devised a new plan and decided to give primary schools tablets in place of laptops.
