The High Court in Embu on Thursday nullified the election of Governor Martin Wambora.

The Judge, William Musyoka ruled that there were massive irregularities in the contest which ultimately undermined the electoral process.

“The results did not reflect the will of the people. I hereby nullify the election,” said Justice Musyoka.

Wambora’s victory was petitioned by former Embu Senator Lenny Kivuti who vied for the county’s governorship on a Maendeleo Chap Chap ticket.

Kivuti narrowly lost to Wambora with less than 1000 votes.

Earlier, the court had ordered a vote recount where Wambora maintained a slim lead of about 700 votes.

Speaking to the press outside the courts, Kivuti said the first hurdle is over.

But, he said, justice will only be served once they go back to the ballot.

Governor Wambora left the court precincts hurriedly and his lawyer Ahmednasir Abdullahi said they will appeal the judgment.
