Business as usual in Nairobi CBD as most businesses re-open after elections

Nairobi CBD is slowly returning to normalcy after a week of post election tension.

The streets are not as busy as they usually are, but most shops were open on Monday despite NASA principal asking people to boycott work.

”I came to town passing through to work. You see life has to go on, we still have to work, we still have to pay bills,” said Diana. “In fact, I’ve just walked and met a couple of security in town and I feel like there is less tension as compared to a few days ago,” Diana added speaking to Capitalfm.

The young entrepreneur said that business was down, but she hopes it will get back to normal in a day or two as people continue heading back to the city.

On Monday, very few Matatu’s were operating within Nairobi area, and one had to wait for sometime before finding transport.

Matatu owners on Monday called for normalcy saying they had lost about Sh700 million in the past week due to the election-related tension that had rocked the country.

Matatu Welfare Association called for the president-elect and Raila Odinga to preach peace.

“We cannot afford any further loss and we call upon President Uhuru and the Nasa leader to show leadership by calling on their supporters to embrace peace,” he said.
