Phanice Chemutai Juma from Kitale is nursing a gunshot wound after she was mistaken for cop-turned-fugitive Caroline Kangogo.

Chemutai was shot on Thursday night by Ken Muyundo at Kimimini market. Muyundo mistook her for Caroline.

He immediately reported the incident at Kiminini Police Station, saying he fired to scare her.

Muyundo is a businessman and the proprietor of Iroko Hotels. He told police officers that he mistook Chemutai for Caroline, who is in the run.

Muyundo claimed the victim had been calling him incessantly to set up a meeting. He alleged that they did not know each other.

But Chemutai, who was rushed at the Kitale County Referral Hospital, said they met and exchanged contact details in the past.

He was arrested and disarmed. He had a Ceska pistol with a loaded magazine containing 10 bullets and a spent cartridge.

Detective following her trail told K24 Digital that Caroline, who has been on the runs since Monday, may be holed up in Mathare.

They say that she was spotted atop a boda boda in Kahawa Wendani and was dropped at Drive Inn.

She is wanted for the murder of Police Constable John Ongweno and security expert Peter Ndwiga.

Caroline killed the two men on Monday in Nakuru and Juja, respectively.
