The burial of fugitive cop Corporal Caroline Kangogo was thrown into a spin on Saturday after a standoff between her family and the police
On Friday, a postmortem on her body had not been conducted. By law, the family cannot get her body until an autopsy is conducted.
The autopsy was expected to be conducted at Iten hospital morgue but did not happen as of Friday evening.
Her family and relatives camped at the morgue asking for the body.
The family accused the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) of holding her body yet they got the green light to bury her.
Her father Barnaba Korir said all he wanted was his daughter’s body.
“I am just asking for the body of my daughter to be released. It is shocking that on Tuesday, the DCI informed us to plan for Saturday burial since the autopsy will be conducted on the eve of the funeral,” Korir said.
He said that the family did not ask for a postmortem
“We did not sanction the postmortem and we are demanding the release of the body of my daughter. I have no issues. I don’t understand why they didn’t inform us that they were not going to facilitate the autopsy. Honestly, we could have postponed the funeral,” he stated.
Dr Johansen Oduor, the government chief pathologist said that he was notified yesterday of the intended autopsy.
Alfred Majimbo, the Elgeyo Marakwet DCI boss said that they were waiting for instructions from Nairobi.
Mark Kangogo, Caroline’s brother said the DCI has taken them through a series of emotional and psychological stress.
