Catholic Archbishop Anthony Muheria hospitalized after contracting COVID-19

The number of COVID-19 in the country rose to 71,729 after 925 new cases were recorded on Tuesday.

A total of 5,559 samples were tested bringing the cumulative tests to 798,585.

Out of the new cases, 893 are Kenyans and 32 are foreigners. 556 are males and 369 females.

The youngest is a five-month old baby, while the oldest is 92 years old.

Some 1,018 patients recovered from the virus, bringing the total number of recoveries to 47,262.

Out of the 1,018 recoveries recorded 850 of these were from home-based care programme, while 168 were from various hospital around the country.

Sadly, 15 more patients succumbed to the virus, bringing the total number of deaths in the country to 1,302.

Among the new cases is Catholic Archbishop Anthony Muheria who heads Nyeri Archdiocese. He has been hospitalized at the Mater Hospital in Nairobi and is under oxygen support.

Medics say that he has made significant improvement.

Muheria is the chair of the Interfaith Council which was pivotal in drawing a roadmap in the resumption of church and other religious service.

“I am still on oxygen as they continue treating me. I remember you all in prayer, whenever I can say my rosaries and other silent prayers in my state,” he said in a message to Fathers from Nyeri.

“Finally Please become ambassadors of compliance in our homes, meetings and funerals. Please let us lead the way of responsibility.”
