Shock has engulfed Chania Boys’ High School fraternity following the death of the school’s principal, Allan Macharia on Friday.

Macharia had just arrived at the school around 8:30 am for a board meeting together with a contractor who was set to construct a new boarding facility at the school.

However, he collapsed while at the meeting and was quickly rushed to Thika Level Five Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Thika police boss Beatrice Kiraguri said that Macharia had complained of breathing difficulties adding that hortly after this, the headteacher collapsed.

The school’s deputy, Simon Wahome was called by the bursar and informed of the incident. He left in a hurry and drove Macharia to hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

“I was called from my house by the bursar, I found the deceased inside his car. I drove him to Thika hospital where he was pronounced dead,” Wahome told Nation.

He said that after complaining of developing difficulties in breathing, he left the two-hour-long meeting for his car but collapsed.

It is not yet clear what exactly led to his death since he had been battling a heart condition for the last three years.

According to Thika West heads Association Chair Julius Muraya who doubles up as Thika High School principal, the deceased had a heart attack three years ago and has been on medication since then.

“He was not only a colleague, but a close family friend. I am deeply saddened by his death”, said Muraya.

The deceased’s body was moved to Kenyatta University mortuary.
