On the night Herman Rowenhorst, a Dutch national who was found murdered in his coastal home on June 4, 2021, his children heard him screaming.

The children aged 14 and 16 told the police in a statement that their mother Riziki Cheorno opened the doors for three unknown men on a fateful night.

She then locked the children in their rooms and later heard their father scream but could not get out.

The three men headed straight to the master bedroom.

“As we prepared to go to their bedroom, we realised that our bedroom door had been locked from outside and we could not leave the room,” one of the children told the police.

A few minutes later, silence befell the apartment as their mother escorted the three men out of the house and left with them.

“There was silence in the house. Our mother escorted the three men and drove off with them,” the children stated.

Before his murder, Rouwenhorst had asked for a divorce after 13 years of being together with Cherono.

She was irked by her husband’s push for divorce. The deceased had told his kids that he would no longer live with them.

“They were fighting often.. Our dad told us that he would no longer live with my mother but would continue to take care of us,” the children stated.

When his body was found, his hands and legs had been tied and his mouth gagged.

Cherono was tracked down to Serena Beach Hotel tied to her car seat calling for help.

Her version of the story is that she was abducted by the thugs and forced into the car.

Coast Regional Commander Paul Ndambuki said that the investigations were at an advanced stage.

He maintained that the killers would be brought to book.
