The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission has refuted claims that some 800, 000 voters cast their ballot for the President only.

IEBC CEO Ezra Chiloba on Thursday dismissed the reports which had been published by the Star.

He said that the inconsistency emanated from delays in transmitting results from polling stations.

In other areas, explained the CEO as quoted by the Star, the transmission rate was “bottom low” and it was not entirely amounting to the final count of votes.

Chiloba pointed out that in Embu and Kirinyaga Counties, results for Senator Positions posted on IEBC portal was just 4.4 per cent of the total number of polling stations in the two counties.

However, this was incorrect because there were more polling stations in the two counties.

The 4.4 per cent representation was occasioned by slow transmission of results according to Chiloba.

In Embu for instance, those who voted for President were 200, 201 more than those who voted for the Senator.

But he said “the commission is not anticipating any major variance between the presidential vote and votes cast for other polling stations after 100 per cent transmission from polling centers.”

He also explained the delay in transmission of results was occasioned by KIEMS kits that could have malfunctioned.

“There could be many reasons why they did not transmit the other results electronically. Maybe the kits did not function.”
