A cop accused of killing a Kiambu politician on Saturday has been arrested.

The cop whose name is yet to be revealed to the public is reported to have shot William Mwangi, a Jubilee politician who vied for Kirenga ward representative seat before he was trounced in party primaries.

Mwangi, a construction engineer was having drinks with friends at club U-Turn in Limuru while watching a foot ball match.

The suspect is reported to have approached Mwangi and his friends and a scuffle ensued.

Club bouncers according to the bar manager George Karuga intervened and threw him out.

He sustained facial injuries.

However, as Mwangi was leaving the joint at about 3am Saturday, he was shot twice in the head and on his arm.

A friend who was with Mwangi but requested not to be named said the cop approached them and demanded to sit at their table and have a free beer but they declined.

“The problem started when the gentleman demanded to drink a bottle of beer but we asked him to pay for it. He asked us if we knew who he was and told him Kenya is a free country guarded by law. We didn’t know he was an officer,” he said as quoted by the Star.

It is after he left the club that he heard gunshots on his way home.
