For six years, Police Constable Mary Migwi toiled and made sacrifices to build a dream home in Nakuru East.

PC Migwi is attached to Miti Mingi Police Post in Gilgil.

She put up a house after making a lot of sacrifices and happily moved in a month ago together with her three kids and a nanny.

Every day she left home for work, she was a proud mother who had given her children a place to rest their heads in until a few days ago when her house burnt down to ashes and consumed the lives of her three children and that of her nanny.

Her three kids; Leah Njoki 10, Teresiah Wanjiru 7 and Mildred Agal 2 perished in the fire with their nanny Mary Wairimu.

The cause of the fire remains unknown.

The Inspector-General of Police Hillary Mutyambai said the National Police Service will assist PC Migwi in every way possible.

“This regrettable tragedy happened when the said officer was on duty and as a result claimed the four lives. This is a difficult painful experience for the officer and my prayers are with her and her family,” he said on Tuesday.

“I extend my support to ensure the officer is settled and offered the necessary psychological assistance. The NPS is committed to addressing the welfare of police officers and their families,” he added.

The funeral of her three kids will be held in Karatina while that of her nanny will be held in Miti Mingi, Nakuru County Police Commander Beatrice Kiraguri confirmed.
