Fifty-one COVID-19 patients have been discharged after making full recovery, Health CAS Dr Mercy Mwangangi said on Friday.

The total number of recovered patients is 648.

Dr Mwangangi said that they tested 3,177 samples in the last 24 hours and 134 people tested positive bringing the number of those who have tested positive so far to 2,747.

So far, 90.875 samples have been tested.

Of the new cases, 131 are Kenyans while three are foreigners. 98 are male and 36 are female. The 134 patients are aged between 6 and 70 years.

Mombasa has 67 cases, Nairobi (31), Busia (15), Machakos (5) and Taita Taveta (4), Kilifi (2), Nakuru (2) while Garissa, Murang’a, Kisumu, Uasin Gishu and Kajiado have one case each.

With the increasing numbers, 2,500 Kenyan couples have been locked out of exchanging vows.

The Office of the Attorney General said that there is already a backlog but couples will have to wait until the Ministry of Health okays it to officiate wedding ceremonies.

Chief Administrative Secretary for the State Law Office Winnie Guchu said that those who had earlier made an application to have a wedding will have to reapply afresh because the 90-day window has expired.

She added that “Only 22 marriages have not expired, the remaining 793 the 90-day period has expired and those couples will have to reapply so that they go back to the 90-day-period. If we do conduct those marriages outside the 90-day-period, those marriages will not be valid.”
