COVID -19 tally hits 93,761, death shoot to 1,629

The number of COVID-19 cases rose to 93,761on Friday after 356 people tested positive.

Heath CS Mutahi Kagwe said that the number of recoveries also went up after 275 people were discharged. This brings the number of recoveries in the country to 75,274.

Another 11 patients succumbed to the virus, raising the number of deaths to 1,629.

Further,  852 patients are currently admitted to various facilities across the country.

A total of  49 patients are in the intensive care unit (ICU) and while 37 others are on separate supplementary oxygen support. 

In the past week, COVID has felled two Kenyan politicians.

It started with former Cabinet Minister Joe Nyagah who passed on a week ago while in the hospital where he was receiving treatment.

His brother Norman Nyagah said that the virus badly damaged his lungs dimming his chances for survival.

He will be buried on Saturday at his Embu home.

On Friday, 74-year-old John Nyagarama who is the Nyamira Governor succumbed to the virus after three weeks of treatment.
