Hours after President Uhuru Kenyatta ordered the total elimination of Al-Shabaab militants in Lamu County, they attacked a GSU camp early Tuesday morning.

The insurgents who have their hideout at Boni forest stormed Mokowe GSU camp at about 1am and were divided in two groups.

The Star reports that they were heavily armed.

The GSU officers at the camp managed to resist the terrorists who took refuge in the nearby Mpeketoni forest.

One of the officers told the media that they saw the two groups approaching the camp and they told them to identify themselves but they declined.

“At around 1 am, we saw two groups of people approaching our camp we asked them to identify themselves but they refused. That’s when we decide to fire at them. Hey also started firing back,” said the officer who added the gun battle lasted for 20 minutes.

The assailants retreated to Mpeketoni forest.

There were no casualties during the gun battle.

The brave show by the assailants came hours after Uhuru ordered security apparatus in the area to kill the militants.

Uhuru said that he will serve them a dose similar to what they serve innocent Kenyans.

He was on a Jubilee tour to Kizingitini in Lamu east constituency.

The county has turned to a hot terror spot.

Last week, the militants hijacked a car belonging to Public Works PS Mariam El Maawy and took her as a hostage.

However, 45 minutes later, she was rescued in a sting operation by KDF.

She is nursing a gunshot wound, a fracture and burns.

A nephew and a guard whom she was travelling at the time of the incident with have been founded dead.

Government forces have been conducting airstrikes to flush out the terrorists while ground troops are combing the vast Boni forest.
