Detectives from the Directorate Of Criminal Investigation (DCI) have arrested a Kenyan pilot linked to the Sh39 billion fake arms deal allegedly engineered by former Sports CS Rashid Echesa.
The suspect, Subow Mohamed Ahmed works for a local aviation company and was arrested at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport on Saturday.
Details of his involvement in the fake arms deal remain scanty.
Echesa together with three other suspects; Daniel Otieno Omondi alias General Juma, Clifford Okoth Onyango and Kennnedy Oyoo Mboya were charged at the Milimani Law Courts on February 17, 2020 with obtaining money by false pretence.
The trio had promised two foreign investors to award them a tender to supply military-grade equipment to the state. Among the investor was an American national.
They were also charged with conspiracy to commit a felony and uttering a false document. They were released on Sh1 million cash bail or Sh3 million bond.
The case roped in Deputy President William Ruto as investigations revealed that a meeting between Echesa and the foreign investors took place at his Harambee House Annex office.
With the case also came the death of an Administration Police Officer, Kipyegon Kenei who was attached to the DP’s office.
Footage from the DP’s office released by the DCI on March 5 showed Kenei in Echesa’s company on February 13.
DCI Boss George Kinoti in his findings said Kenei’s murder was without a doubt connected to the fake arms deal.
