Deputy President William Ruto has broken silence after reports of one of his staffers committing suicide.

David Too, a 51-year-old man was attached to his security detail committed suicide by jumping into a dam in Ngeria, Uasin Gishu County.

The dam formed from an old quarry in the area.

Ruto condoled the deceased as a humble person who took his work seriously.

“Our heartfelt condolences to the family, colleagues and friends of our staff member David Kiprotich Too. We will best remember him for his humility, punctuality and team spirit. Rest In Peace, Corporal Too,” the DP said in a tweet.

The police officer is said to have jumped into the dam at 9 am on Friday in what his family says could been have triggered by stress from his working place.

According to the Standard, his brother Aaron Sing’oei said that the deceased had been under pressure to explain how a camera which belonged to the DP’s communication unit got lost.

Although the preliminary cause of death is a suicide, police are looking into other theories to ascertain the real cause of death.

He is the third staffer from the DP’s office to lose his life in the last year.

First, it was Anthony Kariuki who was hit by a speeding car along Outering Road while trying to cross the newly-built highway.

He was attached to his communication unit. The late Kariuki was described as industrious, a team player and knowledgeable.

But what shocked the country was the death of Sergeant Kipyegon Kenei who was stationed at Ruto’s Harambee Annex office.

Kenei was murdered in early 2020 in what preliminary investigations by the police reveal was his involvement in the Ksh40 billion fake arms deal that implicated Ruto’s office.

Kenei was shot through his chin and the bullet penetrated to the top of his head. His body was then dumped at his Imara Daima home to ostensibly look like a suicide.

His phone’s data was deleted.

Former Sports CS Rashid Echesa was arrested and charged in court over his involvement with the fake arms tender.
