Deputy President William Ruto’s wife Rachel Ruto led a team of clergy men for cleansing prayers on Wednesday to three notorious black spots along Nakuru-Eldoret Highway ahead of the festive season.

Rachel was together with the clergy drawn from Nairobi, Nakuru and Eldoret.

Their first stop was the Sachangwan Memorial where they held prayers and poured anointing oil.

This is the spot where over 100 Kenyans perished after an oil tanker exploded in 2009. They were burnt beyond recognition.

Their second stop was at a point known as Migaa, located between Salgaa- and Sachangwan.

In November, seven vehicles were involved in accidents at this place.

Here, they conducted prayer and poured anointing oil before proceeding to the infamous Salgaa back spot that has claimed thousands of lives.

Late last month, a Nakuru bound matatu was involved in an accident here. All its 12 occupants died on the spot.

Rachel called on the church to take it upon themselves to commission roads.

She said this is important and it helps fights against the evils spirits, some of which have been attributed to the high number of road accidents reported.

“This is something that should be done continuously,” said the DP’s wife according to Nairobi News.

Rongai OCPD Joseph Kioko said the traffic department has intensified night patrols along the stretch to ensure instances of road carnage are greatly reduced.

“We have done everything humanly possible to try and reduce road accidents. What remained was the prayers that have been held today,” he said.

The National Transport and Road safety Authority has launched a 24-hour surveillance system along the Nakuru Highway in a bid to curb road accidents along the highway.
