I am solidly in Jubilee even after losing Senate Speaker bid, says immediate Speaker Ekwe Ethuro.

Ethuro spoke in response to rumors that he was warming up to the opposition after losing the seat to Kenneth Lusaka, former Bungoma Governor.

“I don’t [know] where this information is coming from. I am not going anywhere. I am a founder member of Jubilee,” he said as quoted by Daily Nation.

Before Thursday’s election, Ethuro had untensely lobbied to retain his post and was assured he would.

“My candidature is a matter of trust and familiarity. The members have assured me of their support,” he said.

He added that it was under his tenure as Senate Speaker that Kenya’s devolution concept was taken a notch higher.

“We started Senate from a mere concept paper. Under my leadership the foundation was laid and structures put in place to ensure that the interests of counties are protected.”

But Jubilee instead, lobbied for Lusaka who garnered 42 votes while his challenger Farah Maalim got 25 votes.

Ethuro got 2 votes only.
