Anglican Archbishop Jackson Ole Sapit has challenged the country’s political class to fix electoral injustices because they have become deathtraps.

Sapit spoke against the backdrop of there being several people killed due to election related issues since the bungled August 8 polls were held.

On Friday, he said incidences of poll-related violence should trigger reforms within the electoral system.

He said violence is steadily positioning itself as part of Kenya’s electoral process, something which should be dealt with.

“We need to start talking about economic inequality, exclusion, alienation and other issues that a section of Kenyans have been complaining about so we can look for solutions,” he said in Murang’a according to the Star.

The Anglican head reiterated the call for dialogue stating the country will continue to suffer if talks are not held seeking to end the sharp divisions within Kenyans fuelled by the political class.

He said if this is not done, Kenya could be plunged into irredeemable catastrophe.

“Let’s begin a journey of healing by talking about what is wrong with our processes of getting leadership because we have been witnessing people die during every election,” added he.

“Kenyans must sober up and put the elections behind them to allow the nation to heal,” stated Sapit. “All that needs to be healed and that is what the church wants to embark on, to rebuild the lives of ordinary Kenyans.”

The UK and the US have also made a similar call to the country’s leadership.

President Uhuru Kenyatta in his inauguration speech promised to heal the rifts within the nation.
