When God’s favour is directed at you, it pours like rain.
This is a philosophy that young Kenyan social media sensation Elsa Majimbo now understands quite well.
A few months after she became a social media star, she has now won the coveted 2020 E! People’s Choice Awards.
She has been nominated in the African Social Star category.
“I won the E! People’s choice award!!!!! I literally could not have done it without all of your amazing support,” posted the 19-year-old.
E! People’s Choice Awards is an international award that seeks to recognize the big voices on social media. The public plays a crucial role as they pick the nominees online.
Majimbo became a sensation in the country during lockdown season when she took to social media and awed tens of people with her hilarious monologues.
Her theme was centred on the current lockdown in the country and she would entertain with just random but hilarious content.
Soon enough, she caught the global eye and from them, she shot into the limelight with big names like Steve Harvey, Snoop Doog sharing her content.
Majimbo who has had the rare chance to feature in the world’s most famous publications such as The Guardian, CNN, New York Times says that though 2020 has been a difficult year, she has a lot of lessons learnt.
She has been honest though citing that most of her fans are non-Kenyans who find her funny unlike her people, Kenyans who think otherwise.
“It’s funny that my comedy has garnered more fans outside my own country. The comedy scene here is quite different with most of the jokes in Swahili and about tribes, stereotypes. That’s not my comedy, mine is all about what’s happening in the world,” she told CNN’s Anderson Cooper at a past interview.
Regardless, she has established a big brand which is slowly shaping her life.
