Justice D.K Marete turned up the heat on Thursday during his interview for the Chief Justice post that fell vacant after the retirement of David Maraga last year.

Justice Marete is known for his outspoken nature, fiery and one who is rigid in the dispensation of justice

His interview was one that many waited for as the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) grilled him on his eligibility to take up the CJ post.

When asked if he possesses necessary legal experience to convince the panel that he is fit for the CJ job, Justice Marete gave a hilarious answer.

“Even Kenyatta became Kenya’s President without any experience etc etc etc,” he answered inviting the panel to his Chuka farm to see how good of an administrator he is.

“Go to Chuka you will see from my coffee farm that I am able to be a good Chief Justice,” he said.

Asked why he has had multiples drivers since 2014, he explained that police drivers were not able to conform to his routine and left after a month or two. Some left after weeks.

This forced him to hire a civilian driver whose contract went for one year before it was terminated and left him with no driver.

He has over the years been paying his driver from his salary adding that he has raised the issue with relevant authorities in the Judiciary but is yet to be sorted out as he hoped.

Justice Marete told the panel that he is a “terrible driver” therefore, requires a driver on a 24-hour basis.

He suffers from hypoglycemia – a condition characterized by low blood sugar levels in the body – which makes him unable to drive.

“I’m a bad driver – if you leave the car with me, I’ll have to carry it.”

Winding up, he said that he is the perfect candidate for the Chief justice post because he is daring.

“Daring is my other name, there is nothing that shakes me. This office requires a daring person,” Justice Marete said.
