A former Kenyan soldier now living in the US Julius Mwale has been credited for the inception of Senegal’s multi-billion Akon City currently under construction.

The Ksh600 billion city has been named after Senegalese-born American RnB singer Akon.

Mwale hopes to initiate a similar project in Kenya. He has engaged KE International in his dream to construct KSh200 billion Mwale Medic and Technology City.

Akon entered into an agreement with KE International, an American-based engineering and consulting firm whose investors have pooled $4 billion to start the project.

The city is one of a kind in the continent. Once complete, the project’s two phases will have parks, an industrial complex, stadium and universities.

The first phase of the Akon City project is due for completion in December 2023 while the second and final phase is scheduled to be complete by 2029.

The second phase will be pegged on Akon’s AKOIN cryptocurrency where businesses within the city will be modelled to run on cryptocurrency.

In the first phase, a power plant, school, waste facility, police station and a Hamptons Hospital campus will be launched.

Akon City will stand out as a special tax zone with companies operating here enjoying relatively huge tax breaks courtesy of the Senegalese government.
