Patrick Hinga, a former street boy from Wangige, Kabete who was rescued by a former classmate and rehabilitated is back in rehab after a four month stint in the outside world.

Hinga got out of rehab in January 2018 a completely changed man and was expected to start a new life after his rehabilitation.

However, he had a relapse that shocked many people.

Early this week, Wanja Mwaura, the classmate who rescued him when he was deeply hooked into drugs and facilitated his stay at the rehab plaintively expressed her sadness in learning Hinga had a relapse.

“Hi good people of Wangige. I have been informed that Hinga has had a relapse and he’s back in Wangige chewing miraa. We did our best but it seems…Anyway I don’t know what to say,” she said on Tuesday.

Driven by compassion though, she sent out a team to look for Hinga since she is incapacitated to walk following an accident which she suffered recently.

Once Hinga was found, she managed to convince him to go back to rehab to have a relapse management.

On Thursday, she shared photos of Hinga while playing dart at a rehab facility along Kiambu road.

“That’s Hinga now at Ahadi Treatment Centre. At least I went to encourage him to keep on the fight,” she captioned the photo on Facebook.

Wanja has been described by many Kenyans as a God-sent angel. Besides facilitating his stay at the rehab the first time, Wanja mobilized funds to and opened a shop for Hinga in Wangige Town to give him financial footing once he reintegrates with the society.

The shop is currently being run by Hinga’s mother.
