Foreigners with expired permits asked to apply for Extension of Visitor Pass online starting Monday

Foreigners whose residency permits and passes have expired can apply for an extension beginning Monday, April 13, the Immigration Department has said.

The foreigners will be required to log into the Foreign Nationals portal and apply for the visitors’ extension passes.

Director-General for the Immigration Department Alexander Muteshi said they have extended visitor passes due to COVID-19 outbreak.

The services for renewal had been suspended from March 16, 2020.

“Extension of visitors’ Passes. The above services were suspended for a period of 30 days w.e.f 16th March 2020. The directorate has now automated this service and it will now be available on our Foreign National Services Portal effective Monday, 13th April 2020,” the department stated.

Muteshi said the automation of the service will enable foreigners in the country who have been affected by COVID-19 travel restrictions comply with the directive.

Once logged into the portal, one is required to create an account and select the Extension of Visitor Pass Service. You will fill in the application form and upload relevant documents such as pages of the passport before submitting the application. 

Once submitted, one is required to download and print the application form which they should produce anytime they are asked to by relevant authorities.

Foreign nationals applying for Kenyan citizenship or permits are required to tender all relevant documents at the immigration headquarters at Nyayo House in Nairobi through a dropbox.

The resort to using a dropbox to receive the applications was is in a bid to avoid overcrowding at the Immigration offices due to the spread of coronavirus.

The Immigration office will meet passport applicants only on an appointment basis going forward but urgent cases regarding passports will be prioritized.
