Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mwangi Kiunjuri says he will not bow to pressure to resign or step aside in the wake of the subsidized fertilizer and maize scandals hitting his ministry.
A tough speaking CS on Saturday at Mumbi Girls’ High School in Murang’a said he will not allow being intimidated.
Kiunjuri noted that he was the whistleblower in the dubious dealing in the National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB).
He questioned why he is being victimized yet he made the scandal known to the public.
“These leaders who think they can threaten and intimidate the ministers should be told they have targeted the wrong person,” said the CS according to Daily Nation.
He added calls for his resignation by some quarters are meant to protect cartels involved in the scandal.
“We know they are defending the cartels in the Ministry and are against my efforts to clean the NCPB.
“Remember I was the first person to talk about the rot in the Ministry while they remained silent,” he said.
It is alleged that fertilizer worth Sh6.3 billion was stolen while irregular multimillion shilling payments were made to just a few individuals while farmers continue to wallow in debts.
Yesterday, a battery of politicians from the Rift Valley said he should step aside to allow for a thorough probe.
