Former president of USA George H. W. Bush has been admitted to the ICU just after burying his wife of 73 years, Barbara Bush.

CNN reported Monday evening that the former president was admitted on Sunday morning with a life-threatening infection.

The family released a statement on Monday saying ”Former president Bush was admitted after contracting an infection that spread to his blood. He is receiving treatment and appears to be recovering”.

The infection is reported to have led to Sepsis, a condition that occurs when chemicals released into the bloodstream to fight an infection trigger inflammation throughout the body.

Bush has previously been diagnosed with a rare condition known as vascular Parkinsonism, which is generally believed to be caused by small strokes that damage the same brain structures as are affected in Parkinson’s Disease.
