Former chief government pathologist Dr Moses Njue is facing fresh charges for running a medical college without approval from relevant regulatory bodies.

This is barely a day after he was charged with stealing a heart from a corpse to cover up a crime.

Njue appeared at a Nyeri Court yesterday where he testified that Kings Medical College was duly accredited and registered by the Ministry of High Education Science and Technology.

Njue who was charged alongside his son Lemuel Mureithi told the court the college was registered by the ministry on February 14, 2012, to offer laboratory technician courses.

He said Kenya National Examination Council (Knec) later approved course offered at the college and that it had duly registration by government.

His lawyer John Obuor in defense said that having gotten accreditation from relevant bodies, Njue was not required to seek any approval from Kenya Medical Laboratory Technicians and Technologists Board (KMLTTB) according to the Standard.

However, KMLTTB inspectorate officer Daniel Kangethe told the court that the body had the sole mandate to under the law to accredit any institution offering training and practice of lab technicians.

The case will be heard on June 9.

The ex-government pathologist is facing charges of stealing a heart from Timothy Mwandi Muumbo and various other organs without consent three years ago. Muumbo passed on in 2010.

He was arraigned at the Milimani Law Courts on Tuesday where he denied the charges and was released on a Sh300,000 cash bail. The trial is set for July 3.
