The late Nyeri Governor Dr Wahome Gakuru will be laid to rest today at his Kirichu home in Nyeri County.

President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto are among a host of high flying leaders attending the funeral service at Kagumo High School.

Governors too are in attendance. They are donned in grey suits and red ties while women governors have wrapped themselves in red scarves.

Gakuru died on November 2 in a grisly road accident along Murang’a-Thika highway.

His son, Mugambi Mwenda eulogized his late father as a man of honour who put his family’s interest first.

His glowing tribute led to Former President Mwai Kibaki and DP’s Wife Rachel Ruto to shed tears.

But even with the cloud of sadness, Jubilee politicians who attended the funeral service did not hesitate to chide NASA over Friday’s chaos in Nairobi.

Three cars were burnt by NASA supporters after receiving Raila Odinga from JKIA following his 10-day visit in the US.

Senate Majority Leader Kipchumba Murkomen said according to the Star: “It is unfortunate what we witnesses yesterday where an old woman was stabbed and robbed of bananas and more property destroyed. It is sad that a leader who was once a Prime Minister is profiling a community to just churn a path to power.”

His counterpart in the National Assembly Aden Duale said also hit out at Raila over his quest for power.

“How many lives do you want to see lost and property lost for you to reach where you want? Kenyans voted for President Uhuru and you moved to court, we accepted the ruling and the President was also elected on October, you cannot therefore continue charging Kenyans when the dice has been cast.”
