Three months after last year’s KCPE candidates reported to secondary schools, Addah Musungu, from Shianda village in Butere sub-county, is yet to report despite scoring an impressive 345 marks.

She was admitted to St Mary’s school in Mwea, Kirinyaga County and her parents were required to pay Sh42,226 for her admission. They could, however, not raise the amount.

The young girl filled with hope of joining secondary school despite everything has put up an appeal to Kenyans on social media to help her.

She said she has been helping her mum in her sukuma wiki (kales) business to raise school fees but the proceeds are so little.

“I wish I was in high school. I am 14 years old and scored 345 marks and up to now I have not joined school. I now help my mother to sell sukuma wiki in Kayole but the money I get and Dad’s mjengo (cash) is not enough to pay my school fees… I know you can help,” reads her moving appeal to well-wishers.

In an interview with the Standard on Wednesday, she said she has so far saved Sh2, 500 for her high school education for the past two months.

“On a good day, I can collect Sh350 after hawking sukuma wiki the whole day and make a profit of between Sh70 and Sh100. I save Sh200 daily for buying new stock the following day,” she said.

She also said that throughout her primary education, she was sponsored by a well-wisher who recently lost his job and cannot therefore, sponsor her secondary education.
