The man who shot into limelight during August 8, 2017 polls, Martin Kamotho alias ‘Githeriman’ has been admitted to a rehab facility in Kiambu County.

Kamotho, 42, appealed through his team to President Uhuru Kenyatta, for help in a bid to stop his penchant for alcohol.

Touched by his appeal, State House operatives contacted Kiambu County Women Representative Gathoni Wamuchomba directing her to look for Kamotho and admit him to the Mama Care Addiction and Recovery Centre which she founded.

“Yesterday I received instructions from State House to ensure that I find the whereabouts of Githeriman and admit him to our rehab Mamacare addiction and recovery centre after he contacted the President through his team at Jacaranda grounds narrating his addiction to alcohol and desire to find a new lease of life,” Wamuchomba yesterday said.

The County Women rep started her search for Kamotho in his native village of Kiambururu in Githunguri and later to Kayole where she met him, all dressed up and ready to start a new life after rehabilitation.

“Without any resistance, he made up his mind to join us at Mamacare Addiction and Recovery Centre for the next three months.”

Wamuchomba thanked Uhuru for showing concern with Kamotho’s life which is greatly affected by alcohol addiction.

“I thank HE (His Excellency) the President for taking interest in such a humble man and finding a solution,” she said. “I hope his stay at the rehab will give him a chance to gain sobriety and rediscover his purpose in life.”

Kamotho became a sensation in Kenyan circles after a viral photo showing him munching githeri in a plastic bag while queuing ready to cast his ballot during the August 8, 2017, general elections.

Many well-wishers came forward and gifted him with property and new fashion designs.

Earlier, Kamotho had said he was working as casual laborer with the Nairobi County Government in Kayole where he did odd jobs.
