Godec still US Ambassador to Kenya, no recall, states US Embassy

US Ambassador to Kenya Robert Godec has not been recalled, the US Embassy in Nairobi has said.

There were reports that the envoy was recalled from the country over the electioneering period.

“Godec’s term did not end in July. He has been the US ambassador to Kenya since January 2013 and remains ambassador today,” said’ the Embassy’s Spokesperson Fiona Evans according to the Star.

She added Godec’s stay in Kenya will be long.

She refuted reports that his term expired in July this year.

She said Godec will continue serving in Kenya as the ambassador because “he is a career diplomat.”

“Ambassador Godec, like all US ambassadors, serves at the pleasure of the President of the United States,” she said. “No one has been proposed to replace him as ambassador.”

Godec started working as an envoy in Kenya in 2013 during the reign of retired President Barrack Obama.

He was sworn in by ex-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

Godec has been at “loggerheads” with Kenya’s opposition, NASA.

Its leader Raila Odinga has accused him of being pro-Jubilee.

NASA all through the last two elections held in the country said the envoy was sharply partial in electoral matters.

After the August 8 polls results were released and President Uhuru Kenyatta was announced the winner, Godec was among Western envoys who first congratulated the President.

This did not sit very well with NASA who decried there was rigging.
